KRISTEN SHENK

The Elevated Creative is a social platform and art book at the intersection of creativity, entrepreneurship, & mindfulness.

For the first 10 years of my career, I worked for large corporations such as Nike and Pepsi (*Fun fact — I started my career as a summer design intern at Nike!)

Although at times chaotic, I worked within the safety and comfort of business units, teams, and giant well-oiled machines that kept me protected and did not allow me to fail.

After leaving the safety and comforts of the corporate world to start two companies (one, a creative agency MLTI NYC; the other, an apparel company), I embarked on a spiritual journey.

In “A New Earth,” Eckhart Tolle describes the “urgency of transformation.”

He explains how sea creatures evolved into land animals, likely prompted by some sort of radical crisis situation.

Perhaps the water slowly receded, forcing the sea creatures to “grow feet instead of fins, develop lungs instead of gills.”

Essentially, he’s saying EVOLVE OR DIE.

While my own personal “crisis” wasn’t quite so dramatic, it was a smaller crisis of sorts — a major transition that required me to evolve.

Entrepreneurship has forced me to peel back the layers of my outer shell in order to get to the heart of what’s really inside.

To delve into the depths of my core, from which inspiration, creativity, and energy burst forth — but also where self-doubt, limitations, fear, ego, perfection, and deep-seated inner wounds originate and reside.

I was forced to ask myself tough questions, get to know myself, and to look at the world through a completely different lens.

Much like the sea creatures that were forced to grow feet, I was forced to adapt and evolve.

Had I not embarked on a spiritual journey to explore self-improvement with curiosity and compassion, I would very likely be unraveling with fear, anxiety, and negative self talk.

Instead, my mindset has shifted into one of growth, lightness, compassion, collaboration, confidence, empathy, and joy.

And here — I share my musings.

The lessons, trials, tribulations, mindset shifts, and epiphanies that I have documented (and continue to document) along the way.

From one sea creature to another.
